Wheelchair Securement for Vehicle Passengers

Wheelchair securement is essential to the safety of wheelchair users. Wheelchair users who regularly drive or ride special converted vehicles to go to their offices should make sure that their wheelchairs are properly secured by strap tie-downs before traveling in order to avoid unnecessary accidents.

They should also be careful to observe the regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). One regulation states that the wheelchair user should be secured directly to the front or the back of the vehicle. Another regulation requires that the passenger should also wear a regular seat-belt and a shoulder harness, aside from the special wheelchair securement devices.
